This is a very gentle story of love and life, in which little happens and yet where lives are gently transformed by acts of kindness and tenderness. Morgan Freeman plays a writer who has sunk into a quiet alcoholism and has ceased to write or to take joy in life. He takes a summer house with a dog, and becomes acquainted with the three young girls and their mother who live next door.

The aquaintence blossoms into love and inspiration with very positive results for all concerned - there is plently of gentle humour, no threat, and a magical feel good factor.

The previous title of this film, The Magic of Belle Isle, seems more appropraite than its new tiltle- the island seems to have a gentle magical, healing quality, which has an almost instant effect on its residents.

A lovely film - slow, yes, but with a lingering glow

A surprisingly lovely little film, the premise focuses on Monte Wildhorne (Freeman), an elderly wheelchair bound author who has retired from writing. Depressed, alcoholic and somewhat suicidal, having nothing better to do and nowhere to go, Monte takes on a dog-sitting job for his Nephew's friend. Slightly cynical, Monte reckons he'll be dead within a week having killed himself, unable to write and no longer interested in functioning with society but quickly, he finds himself falling in love with the town. Agreeing to mentor nine year old Finnegan O'Neal on how to write stories, he finds himself falling for the dignity, beauty and grace of her mother Charlotte, and begins finding reasons to live again, seeing the beauty in the world he has been missing since the death of his wife six years prior.

A touching story of friendships and love, this is a nice Sunday movie full of sentimental dialogue and feel-good warmth. No violence, very little if any bad language, it might be a nice movie for all the family.

A very enjoyable rendition of a classic tale. Morgan Freeman delivers barbs with such subtly that often the recipient doesn't recognise the sting!

Yes, he is an older man who becomes interested in a younger woman, who returns his interest, which concerned a reviewer on 27.08.18, but they missed an essential ingredient to the story - Belle Isle is a place of eccentrics and enchantment. Wounded people come and are accepted and healed, if they let themselves be. Whereas other films on this subject can dwell on the angst and melancholy for too long, this film recognises that life is unfair and losing people hurts but there can be good moments too, and the good can outweigh the bad; even if it looks different to what you expected!

"Once More" is one of those films you would want to watch again and again. Each time you watch it something else triggers in your soul. This is a film to relax with, to enjoy and learn from. Such a gentle film stands out these days and Morgan Freeman shows her really can take you on a magical journey.

OK so the main character is an alcoholic writer who hasn't written anything for a while, but when he moves into a 'holiday home' for the summer, not only does he have a dog (Ringo, later renamed Spot) to look after, but also the three girls from next door awaken something deep within. The story is somewhat predictable, but surely all the best stories are.

The price of this film is bonkers, for the price of a good coffee you can have a film that will touch your heartstrings - a great investment.

A beautiful gem of a film funny and moving, you know a film is good when you feel like you've been away somewhere after watching it. Even my hubby enjoyed it and he doesn't usually watch films

It is so refreshing to watch a film like this. A masterpiece of subplots some are oh so sweet, others are amusing. There is no violence and there is no special effects. Freeman at his best, Madsen is incredible, and the children in her family are oh so good. Even Spot has his moments developing his relationship with Freeman. But this is a genuine yet somewhat unconventional love story involving Freeman and Madsen. You don't know whether to laugh or cry, you do a little of both. You are waiting for a tragic or magic finale...I won't spoil your chance to experience fully a wonderful film and find out yourself.

I loved this film. Lovely story, great cast and set in a beautiful location. I'm not keen on the word 'feelgood' but can't find a suitable alternative word. Highly recommended for all, that leaves a smile on your face.

Any Morgan Freeman film is worth watching. 'Once More' is a gentle, sympathetically rendered tale of ordinary people in a small community. Neighbourly care and understanding is central to this tale so don't expect extreme action, violence and foul language. Enjoy it for what it is.

A brilliant film with a great character study of two people wi diff rent problems helping each other back onto an even keel by just being themselves. One of Morgan Freeman's finest performances, in my opinion. Saw it first on someone else's Neflix account and was determined to get my own copy. No regrets; will watch it time and time again.
